What is happening on this front? Are we having a leadership race? If so, when and who is running?

The silence here is deafening
A lack of response to Michael's questions in this forum is further evidence that this site has deteriorated since we've moved to a new website format. As fewer commenters access this site, the more questions like this remain unanswered (I have an outstanding one here as well, Michael: it's regarding our position on cap and trade...no one has offered to assist).
Michael, you may want to use the Green Bloggers site to access many more blogs from Greens, many of whom have moved away from this site over time, for various reasons. The Green Bloggers site is a feedcluster -- it provides links to various blogs; it's administered by private individuals, including Dave Bagler.
There have been several blogs written lately with regards to where the Party is at with the leadership contest question. It's not an easy one to answer, although there may be more direction after the next Federal Council meeting, as I understand that at least two motions will be coming forward: one to require Fed Council to begin organizing in preparation for holding the leadership contest at the BGM; the other motion will be to ask the membership at the BGM to amend our by-laws regarding the 4-year leadership contest requirement.
If the first motion is adopted by Fed Council, it's almost certain that there will be a leadership contest in August, culminating at the BGM. If the motion is defeated, and the second motion passed, a leadership contest may or may not occur late in 2010 -- if the membership votes to amend our by-laws, there will not be a 2010 contest; if the membership defeats a motion to amend our by-laws, a leadership contest will have to get underway sometime after the August BGM.
So...things are a little up in the air right now. The next Federal Council meeting was scheduled for February 14th (although there was discussion that it may be changed to the 7th to avoid Valentine's Day); it's unclear to me when the meeting will be, as the minutes from the last meeting on the 17th of January have yet to be posted to the GPC site.
We should have a better perspective as to what will happen, depending on how Fed Council resolves these two largely conflicting motions (note: since I've not seen an Agenda for the Feb 14 meeting, and I doubt one has been put together yet, I'm not 100% that both motions will be on it; but I suspect that they will be).
I suspect, though, that if you keep looking to this site for information on what's going on, it'll be out of date by the time you find it. Other bloggers, though, will no doubt be out of the gates after the Fed Council meeting, whenever it might be.
That's the best that I can do right now, Michael. If others have a differing opinion, please do chime in. I'm not on Fed Council, so I don't have an insiders perspective on this issue.

Re: Leadership Race
Thanks Steve, and shame on the person who gave Steve a negative point for that helpful post. There, I bumped you back up to zero. I'm not sure whether the two motions are on this site, but here's one of them: Leadership Race motion. Does Elizabeth intend to run again for leader if we have a leadership race?

'Report on Greens' does offer some insight, albeit through a maze of over-personalized chatter and banter. Most of the other blogs look like an exercise in narcissism and minutiae.
motions in front of Council
As far as I know, there is a couple of motions regarding the race in front of Council right now. From my understanding, the next Council meeting is this Sunday, starting at 7pmET, where they should be discussing the race.
I encourage all members to email the Chair of Federal Council, Michael Moreau (michael.moreau@greenparty.ca), to ask for permission to observe the meeting.
