Some key points in Green UK "Manifesto 2010"

There's a lot of good policy ideas in this manfesto, including these from Part I - The Economy:

  1. Inequality - it's mentioned first and given prominence throughout. The GP of England and Wales recognises that inequality is a fundamental problem that is exacerbating our financial crisis. I'm not so sure we get that in the GPC.
  2. Prosperity without growth - not sure we get that either. We can't keep growing the size of the economy or it will grow beyond its ecological limits. We had quite a debate about that issue here a year or so ago when we considered endorsing CASSE.
  3. Green New Deal - jobs strategy - this is something that would get us votes
  4. Reduce deficit - I mention this in case anyone is thinking they are fiscally irresponsible
  5. Raise taxes on higher incomes - it's needed, let's face it
  6. Regulate the financial sector more strictly - ditto
  7. Protect public services - instead of privatising everything for the elites and foreign corporations (our water system is at risk btw)
  8. Raise corporate and capital gains taxes, et cetera

Sustainable Development Commission to be axed

Well, this is timely: UK sustainability watchdog to be axed. That's what you get when you don't elect enough Green MPs.
