Greens for Fair Voting
Greens for Fair Voting is a new Facebook Group for Green members and supporters to discuss proportional representation. Please join and help spread the word!
Here's an excerpt from the Group description:
The Green Party of Canada advocates adopting Proportional Representation as part of it's policy platform. Proportional Representation is the method of counting votes whereby the number of seats awarded to a party corresponds to the percentage of voters who voted for them. It is the system used in 90% of European democracies, and over 90 democracies in the world. Proportional Representation is a fair voting system whereby each of our votes counts equally and each vote contributes to electing someone. With Proportional Representation, each vote carries real weight. The makeup of government reflects the values of the voters, and parties work together to govern in a manner that far better serves the citizens they represent than our winner-take-all system allows. Proportional Representation is what gives the Green Parties in Europe seats in their governments, with the crucial opportunities to create and influence policy that this entails. The purpose of this page is to create awareness and support among Green Party members in Canada about the pressing need for electoral reform in Canada.
