Policy Wiki Going Mainstream, Where is the Green Party?

I was doing my daily review of the Globe and Mail political section when a little graphic caught my eye on the side of the web page. With all the excitement around the upcoming federal budget the Globe and Mail in cooperation with the Dominion Institute have decided to launch a Public Policy Wiki to get ideas and responses from Canadian citizens on what the budget should contain.

A few notes on what is contained in the wiki:
-the discussion is limited to the upcoming federal budget
-policy ideas are submitted by experts
-registered users have the chance to vote on each policy
-users can create/edit their own policy in a structured format(there are different headings that must be filled out and word limits)
-currently there are 447 registered users(as of January 18th, 2009)

Also note that Barack Obama's administration is trying something similar in the U.S.

Now this is stretching back in my memory but if I'm not mistaken the Green Party had something like this in existence before(I'm thinking back to pre-2004). Again I was not a member at the time so I'm not completely versed in the debate/issue but could it be that what the party was attempting was ahead of its time?

With this development, however, maybe this is an idea that has reached the mainstream and perhaps now is the time to reexamine it? If a major national newspaper is willing to put it's name what will come out of this online discussion then it is definitely lent some legitimacy.

SO MY QUESTION(s) FOR DISCUSSION ARE:
-Should the Green Party bring back the Living Platform?
-And if so in what ways or context would it return?
-Does elements of this already exist in our current ability to vote on policy motions and in the members forum?

NOTE: I have also posted this in the members section for those who feel this discussion is best had there.

group specific forums allow for this participation

Hi Matthew

The forums give this opportunity and in a more refined matter that provide focus. Members can join as many policy groups as they wish and help start others. Personally I prefer this to a larger wiki. I was on the living platform and liked it alot when I made my decision to join the party. The trouble seemed to be the lack of management. I was reading and responding to entries that were one or more years apart. It became frustrating to navigate through it.

members can join groups through this link or by looking on the right hand side for 'all groups'.
