What is the Total Cost of a Federal General Election? Is this Value for Money? Can We Do Better?
If all the direct, indirect, personal, party, government and agency costs were added up, what is the cost of a single Federal Election? Since 2001, we have therefore spent how many hundreds of millions of $$$? If we applied triple bottom line accountability to this spending how well would it fair by comparison with alternative ways of spending the same amount? A ranking by present value of net social life cycle cost would be a very compelling example for the upcoming election. It would also tell the story and paint the picture of the meaning of "lost opportunities". What improvements in health, education, environmental management and poverty could we have otherwise enjoyed? How much healthier an economy could we be enjoying now?
There are two possible best outcomes for the next Federal Election, either no one shows up to vote, or we get a record turn-out and they all vote Green! No doubt that we prefer the Green Vote, for it says we are fed up with the waste of the dinosaur parties and their incapacity for dealing with the issues that matter in 2010. It says we recognize the true coalition of left, right, and centre that are emodied in the principles that govern the Green Party. It says we know that social democracy, market economy and environmental/social justice must all be addressed with every plan, policy, law and program that government espouses. We understand that Nature with People with Business in Harmony is the most basic fundamental for survival in the 21st century.
Yes, the Greens "Do Get It!" You can help all of us to get it too!
