If Iggy and the Libs are Hot to Trot, Harper's Gov't Could Fall Week of September 14
Why should Ignatieff wait for a scheduled vote of non-confidence the week of September 28th, when there is another confidence matter before the House during the first week of its return? If Ignatieff and the Liberals are so hot to trot to defeat the government, why not use the following opportunity, reported by CTV News, "Liberals will move to topple Harper government", which says:
"However, a vote on the ways and means portion of the budget is scheduled for one fo the first days after Parliament resumes on September 14, ... , which means the opposition could bring down the government at that time."
Greens, we are going to find ourselves in a fall election, possibly before the end of summer. We need to start forging ahead. EDA’s, get those candidates nominated. Central Party: get those candidates recruited in areas where there are no EDA’s.

at this stage...
...it is possible that any perception of GPC lack of readiness might be a factor in having Liberals push forth, more even than the Guelph by-election possibility of actually electing a Green might have been a factor in Conservatives' pulling the plug mid-campaign, however relatively smallish both factors.
The point is, Liberals understand where a significant chunk of their support would look secondarily, thus they know where to look for some policy advances, they understand long-term trending as well, and if their piggy bank has caught up, we can almost be surprised at no election called soon.
I do wonder about what turn Ignatieff's ennui (see https://greenparty.ca/node/4324#comment-10302 ) might take after electoral failure. The NDP might hold the best cards in the end, with whom he has not ruled out almost surely necessary co-operation, short of coalition.
Steve's call is sensible. Others who say that Greens should be ever-ready for an election, as any party should be, are also sensible. That means owning up to our parliamentary tradition & chucking the "fixed date" fixation some Greens have been improperly convinced to have inserted into GPC policy.
Liberals must be media-feeding electoral threats just to keep their profile higher, just in case they really do get the courage.
Here's the Game Play to Force an Early Election
So, here’s some comprehensive analysis from today’s Globe & Mail regarding how we could end up with the Writ being dropped on Sunday, September 20th, instead of early October. Looks to me like game-playing writ large. But having said that, I can’t see how Ignatieff could back down now by voting for the ways and means bill. Perhaps there might still be a way to engineer putting off a vote on this until later? Does anybody know?
Otherwise, prepare for Day One of the Campaign to be Monday, September 21st.

Bloc - CPC alliance...again
That is my bet. The Bloc, for now, will vote with the CPC (assuming the CPC doesn't do anything too stupid) in an effort to look like they are making things work. It might not delay stuff too much but they probably will vote along to get key money bills passed saying it is in the best interests of Quebec to get that stuff passed first, then allow an election to be called in October.
I just wonder why the media (and the Liberals) never seem to hit the CPC with how often they count on the Bloc to stay in power. Ah well, we focus on the positive and let them worry about shooting each other.

No Chance
No election will be called.
What for?
Contrary to the media complicit participation in this smoke screen ...... Iggy and Harper are twins to me in many ways and no election will be called in my view.
Iggy is just laying the lastest ploy move.
Think about it...was he to say all is just ....peachy?
Even though it is to their masters?
Sorry I do not believe an election is coming before the years end....why?
layton will probably say his canned lines as he now shakes in his booties and backs down.....yes... with some scattered crumbs to workers as an excuse. He knows he is going down.
They should be providing much more entertainment than this for what ? each at $155,000 dollars a year...eh?
Build the EDA's and forget about trigger happy game players.
My 2 cents
Cheers
