Exporting of Asbestos is morally bankrupting Canada

The government of Quebec is about to give a 3.5 million loan guarantee to the Couombe Asbestos mine to reopen it and may guarantee another  58 million dollar loan if a buyer can be found to reopen the mine for the next 25 years.

Asbestos is a banned substance in most countries and is only sold to developing countries where knowledge of its deadly legacy is not known.

Stephen Harper has authorized the use of the Canadian flag in the marketing of Asbestos to 3rd world countries.  This is absolutely outrageous!  Using the (maybe not so much anymore) good faith of the Canadian flag to sell toxic cancer causing Asbestos to 3rd world counties is a national disgrace.

Stephen Harper is also blocking another UN resolution (he is getting a lot of practice at this) that would prevent Asbestos sales without informed consent.

These actions by the Harper Government are soiling our flag and our international repudiation.  Knowingly exporting death should be met with a trip to the Hague.  Some people may think this is an extreme view but I would like the next generation to be able to travel in this world without fear of retribution.

As a side note the Harper government is about to give a permit to transport radioactive steam reactors from the Bruce nuclear plant through our Great Lakes and across the ocean to Sweden for recycling into consumer products.  I guess if we are shipping Asbestos overseas radioactive waste muse be OK too.

Please do not shame Canada any more Mr Harper.

In case you were wondering what the picture was. It is a woman

In case you were wondering what the picture was.  It is a woman sifting Asbestos in Bangladesh.  Maybe I should have photoshopped in a Canadian flag on the basket
