TV interview with Jim Harris on Green Politics

A TV interview on Green politics that I did with PublicVoice.tv just went up on their web site yeterday. See it at http://bit.ly/734w2K

Part 1 of this series of interviews looks at Green politics in Canada and the world. Issues discussed include:

1) The Green Party is more fiscally responsible than parties of the right and more socially progressive than the parties of the left;

2) How the Canadian Greens are one of the most successful green parties worldwide. Other green parties are elected because most countries use proportional representation -- so if a party gets 6% of the vote it wins 6% of the seats;

3) How the Green Party of Canada's support in national polls (ranging from 5% to 14%) is just the tip of the iceberg. Underneath that is another 17% of Canadians who say the Green Party is their second choice and underneath that is another 15-20% of Canadians who are considering the Green Party. In total this 40% of Canadians who have decided or are considering voting Green is forcing every other political party to begin addressing the issues we are talking about. For instance it forced the Federal Liberals to adopt the central plank of the Green Party and campaign on it as their central issue in the 2008 election.
