Halifax
Michael Dewar is currently the Male Co-Chair of the Young Greens of Canada, the Green Party’s Youth Wing, and the GPC candidate for the riding of Halifax. He has been interested in environmental issues since childhood and helped assemble a petition to preserve his neighbourhood’s ravine from private development. Dewar’s commitment to the global environmental movement has only grown since then and he is now an advocate for swift action on the threat climate change.
Educated at the University of Western Ontario, Michael earned a B.Sc. in the field of Earth Sciences and a B.A. in Honours Philosophy with special attention paid to the field of ethics. Currently he is a student of the law school at Dalhousie, following the footsteps of Green Party leader Elizabeth May. Michael is sure that this combination of scientific, ethical and legal training will aid him well in his quest to create stronger environmental policy for the benefit of all Canadians.
Outside his life as a student, Michael is an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hiking, kayaking and surfing. He has travelled widely throughout Canada and abroad, and has seen firsthand the beauty of the natural world. Once a well known student journalist at Western, Dewar has written for the UWO Gazette, and has a special passion for writing novels. He hopes to use the influence of the written word to spread a message of environmental responsibility and respect for all people.
Michael Dewar is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Halifax.
