Moncton - Riverview - Dieppe
With his spouse Monique and their three children, Steven Steeves lives in Riverview. He and his family have lived in the greater Moncton area for most of their lives. Steven has a B.Sc. from Dalhousie University and has been employed as an air traffic controller for 18 years.
Steven’s formative years were divided between the rolling hills near Caledonia Mountain and the salt marshes of Shepody on the Fundy coast. Both places brimmed with natural wonders and instilled in him a deep respect for all living things. During that time his family grew a lot of their own food and harvested much of nature’s bounty such as wild blueberries, fiddleheads and goose tongue greens (marsh greens). Steven still goes to Shepody to pick greens when he sees the wild roses bloom in June.
A year and a half ago, when he became aware of the uranium exploration being conducted in the relatively populous southeastern New Brunswick, he decided it was time to step beyond a personal ethic and become more proactive in the pursuit of a sustainable society. He is currently a member of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick, the Riverview Environmental Strategies Committee and recently agreed to sit on Moncton’s Earth Day Committee. His offer to run for the Green Party is born out of necessity and a growing awareness that the actions of individuals, although important, will not suffice to meet the enormous challenges of tomorrow. He believes the Green Party is clearly the best suited to meet these challenges.
Steven Steeves is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe.
