Gaspésie - Îles-de-la-Madeleine

Julien Leblanc

Born in St-Alexis-de-Matapédia, Julien Leblanc grew up where agriculture at a human scale was part of his daily life, instilling in him environmental values and a certain dexterity at weeding.

As someone passionate about fresh air and wide open spaces, Julien chose to settle in the Gaspésie after his studies. He was actively involved in his community, notably by taking part in various demonstrations and helping local organizations using his expertise in videography.

Julien's involvement also included founding Kino 132, an organisation which for six years has promoted local cinema and screened film shorts throughout the region. He also teaches courses in videography in schools and is a member of the Baie-des-Chaleurs improv group and the theatre troupe Le Clan Destin.

With a degree in Media Art and Technology, Julien has worked for Télé-Québec for the past six years. His work brings him to every corner of the peninsula and archipelago, meeting many different people who keep him informed of their local issues. This was how he learned of the crying need for political representatives who can represent them in national debates and act wisely. In 2008, Julien made the leap into politics under the banner of the party he considers to be closest to the feelings and concerns of his neighbours, a party of integrity and constructive ideas rather than of petty sniping--the Green Party of Canada.

It is now clear to all that the environment must be the highest priority in our activity, including decisions by our government. Sensible and concrete policies already exist, and the Green Party is working to implement them.

Julien Leblanc is the Green Party of Canada's nominated candidate for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
