Gatineau
Jonathan Meijer was born in Ottawa where he spent most of his youth, during which he attended primary and secondary school in the French language public system, followed by university, before eventually moving to Gatineau.
A fan of many subjects including computers, music and history, Jonathan has always been at the top of his class. He obtained his Bachelor in Applied Sciences, Computer Engineering, at the University of Ottawa in 2004 and has been working as a software developer since graduation. In 2007, he joined a company that operates in the health business.
In the past few years, Jonathan joined the Group for the Protection of the Bird Sanctuary on Kettle Island, aiming to prevent a new bridge between Gatineau and Ottawa from being built in the sensitive zone, in favour of building near the Boulevard de l'Aéroport. Jonathan is also involved in the Group for the Protection of the Mature Trees in the Lac Beauchamp Park, whose goal is to prevent the city of Gatineau’s mature trees from being logged.
Jonathan is also a member of the Coalition Train Leger Outaouais, a group that has made a difference in our community by fighting to replace a light-rail train on the existing rail line. He demonstrates his dedication to public transit by taking the bus to work every day.
Jonathan has been married to his husband since 2004.
Jonathan Meijer is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada for the riding of Gatineau.
