LaSalle - Émard
Lorraine Banville was born in Ville-Emard, aside from leaving for graduate studies; she has lived here her entire life. Having had the opportunity to rub shoulders with nature at a young age, Lorraine realized we’re not the only ones on this earth and the environment is an integral part of our lives. “When we harm the environment, it is ourselves who ultimately suffer the consequences, whether it is in the water we drink, the air we breathe, the environment we inhabit or soil that we use to grow.“Passionate about issues in ecology and environment, she decided to return to school in her thirties to become a biologist, ecologist and oceanographer. She has since become a lecturer for many years.
Although Lorraine is concerned with issues related to the St. Lawrence Marine, since her return from Montreal, Lorraine has started to focus on issues related to freshwater resources such as,” The Blue Gold of the 21st century.”
Lorraine is also very concerned about issues related to
poverty, food security, education, health, as well as the exclusion of youth
and seniors from the social fabric. “In a world where everything goes fast, too many people are
unfortunately left out. It is time to integrate all ages
in our community projects to promote the rich knowledge of our elders and the
creative spirit of our youth is the key to our future.“ According to
Lorraine, we must provide adequate financial assistance to students so they can
fully concentrate on their studies, as it is essential to increase social housing,
pensions of our elders and to offer strong health
programs.
Public transit is also an important issue. Lorraine is
disappointed that residents of our district, particularly those living in the
LaSalle area, must live with poor transportation. Buses are constantly at
capacity morning after morning, leaving residents wondering if the next bus
will be available! Lorraine strongly believes in fighting
for the transportation we deserve.
In addition, the revegetation of certain sectors
contributes enormously to the welfare of the population. Do
not forget that during the construction of the new Turcot interchange,
degradation of air quality is expected. By combining
increased transit to a living environment that would include more green space
and community gardens, schoolyards and green lanes, this would be beneficial
for the entire population, contributing to better air
quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and heat islands.
In closing, Lorraine strongly believes in a green and
innovative economy. Canada is ready to take the turn; to
green technologies and sustainable development, creating jobs at home for
Canadians while affording the country and the world.
Tired of the traditional parties who are unable to convey
a real vision for the country and the dual language required by political
leaders, Lorraine Banville has chosen the Green Party of Canada to promote
green values of the Party: A genuine democracy, innovative economy and
vibrant communities.
It's time for the change you’ve been thinking of, it’s time to vote Green...!
Lorraine Banville is the nominated candidate for The Green Party of Canada in the riding of LaSalle – Emard.
