Jessica Gal

Jessica Gal is a 35-year-old native Montrealer of Hungarian / Jewish background, and has lived in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce for most of her life. She graduated from Concordia University in April 2003 with a double major in political science and environmental geography. She is one of the founding members of the current incarnation of the Green Party of Quebec, and in the 2003 provincial elections she obtained the highest percentage of votes in the party as candidate for the riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. She has run twice as a GPC candidate in the riding of NDG-Lachine, in 2004 and 2008.

During her studies, Jessica served two terms as a councilor for the faculty of Arts & Science on the Concordia Student Union’s Council of Representatives, and was involved with QPIRG-Concordia (a student-run organization, part of the PIRG network founded by Ralph Nader), as co-coordinator of a working group promoting fair trade.

Until recently, Jessica was employed at Katimavik, a national youth service organization which has been promoting community volunteerism among Canada’s youth for 30 years.

By vocation, Jessica is a professional violinist specialized in world music and a strong advocate for stable public funding of cultural programs. As a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces reserves (1993-97), she has an appreciation for the contributions of our military. As the wife and sponsor of a recent immigrant to Canada, she has first-hand experience with the immigration system and a solid understanding of issues surrounding the integration of immigrants into our communities.

The Green Party of Canada is the only political party Jessica feels has the capacity to represent the best interests of all Canadians and of future generations.

Jessica Gal is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Notre Dame de Grace-Lachine.
