Avtaar Soor
Avtaar Soor has been self employed as a publisher, printer and graphic artist since 1989. He has a proven track record in developing, coordinating, and solidifying expertise in all aspects of project management, from planning, to team motivation, to project completion.
Avtaar is a leader in his communities. He is President of the Brampton Village Lions Club (2009-10), Executive Member and Event Committee Chair of Sierra Club of Canada (Peel Region Group), Advisory Board Member of Punjabi Community Health Services for Youth Crime Prevention, Advisory Board Member of SAHRA (South Asians for Human Rights Association), and Master of Ceremony in many programs.
Avtaar is especially committed to social justice issues. He believes we need more support for children, youth, and families, increases in resources for higher education, and better help for lower income families. Avtaar is especially concerned about the quality of life in our local communities, and is committed to developing better ways to address conflicts and build on strengths in the neighbourhoods in which we live.
Avtaar believes in a responsible and an accountable government, higher priority for human rights, the fundamental importance of a healthy environment to our economy, and the development of alternative energy sources to replace carbon-intensive and nuclear ones. He joined the Green Party when Elizabeth May became leader, and is proud of her work to bring the Green Party into the mainstream of Canadian politics.
Avtaar was inspired to run for Member of Parliament for Brampton West because he regards global warming as the most important issue faced by our nation, and knows the Green Party’s approach – environment first – is the best way forward. He believes that the contributions that Green Party of Canada, Green Party of Ontario and Green politicians make are essential to our quality of life.
Avtaar is a long-time resident of Brampton West. His wife, son, and two daughters are proud that he is running as a candidate, and join with him in calling for a greener, smarter, and kinder Canada.
