Katarina Zoricic

Katarina Zoricic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzgovina and moved to Canada with her family in 1990. After many years of playing competitive tennis internationally, Katarina pursued a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg,Virginia.

While at University, Katarina served as captain of the nationally ranked varsity woman’s tennis team and was selected as a two-time All American. Although International Relations has always been an interest and academic strength, a tennis scholarship not only gave her the opportunity to further her political passion, but helped her develop as an individual into the motivated leader ready to work to ensure a brighter future for Canadians.

Life after tennis and academics has enabled Katarina to focus her time and effort on further understanding the Canadian political system and its shortcomings in recent years.  A recent commitment of Katarina’s is The Regenesis Project, a non-for-profit organization committed to building comprehensive and practical solutions to today’s social, humanitarian and environmental concerns. Katarina’s main undertaking with Regenesis is the Vote Out Fluoride Campaign, which has the immediate goal of increasing public awareness on the practice of fluoridation in municipal water supplies. She also currently serves as a volunteer for the Toronto Environmental Alliance and is an active member of the Women’s Habitat of Etobicoke.

Katarina’s concern for the buildup of toxic chemicals in the environment, energy and water shortages, and true social justice has led her to commit to the Green Party of Canada. She believes that the Green Party’s focus on sustainability and idea that we did not inherit the planet from our parents, but we are borrowing from our children is better practiced than merely preached.

Katarina believes that Canadian politics has been approaching very serious environmental issues with a very laissez-faire attitude.  As a young Canadian with a plethora of international experience, she finds it troublesome to see Canada’s political leaders dancing around pivotal environmental issues that will entail serious consequences for young Canadians and future generations to come.

Katarina Zoricic is the Green Party nominated candidate for Etobicoke Centre.
