Kingston and the Islands
Eric Walton was born in Ottawa, but spent most of his childhood and teenage years living in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He attended Queen's University and graduated in 1983 with an Honours B.A. in Political Studies. As a student at Queen's he co-founded Odyssey Travel and continued developing that small business for several years after graduation. He eventually sold the travel agency to his co-workers and soon after co-founded Logkit Inc., a successful 18 year business which was sold in 2006.
From 1986 to 1994 Eric was a founding member and the part-time agency director of the Kingston Environmental Action Project (KEAP) -- a multi-issue, environmental, non-profit organization. In 1992 he co-produced and directed Ancient Futures: Learning from Ladakh. This award-winning documentary was filmed on location in Northern India and was aired on CBC's The Nature of Things.
Eric has served on the Board of Directors of several local organizations, such as The Social Planning Council, Kingston Employment and Youth Services, The Kingston Global Community Centre, and Opportunity Kingston – a peer supported micro-lending non-profit organization. He was also a member of the Healthy Communities Initiative and of the City of Kingston Pesticides Committee. He is fluently bilingual and is the Green Party’s Shadow Cabinet Critic for International Affairs.
Eric believes we are at a critical moment in human history and that the choices we make today will determine the health and beauty of our future world. He feels that Canadians want to live in harmony with our environment and with each other, but that we currently lack the political leadership that could enable this transition. As a former two-time Green candidate, Eric knows that there is only one political party with both the focus and political freedom to follow through on its vision of the possible – the Green Party.
Eric is 50 and married. He and his wife Jennifer have two children.
Eric Walton is the Green Party of Canada's nominated candidate for Kingston and the Islands.
