Lambton - Kent - Middlesex
Jim Johnston is a Professor at the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business at Fanshawe College. Jim is committed to helping restore balance in his community by emphasizing community and family values over uncontrolled growth and resource depletion. Jim was initially attracted to the Green Party because of its commitment to improve the democratic system and ensure that the public has a greater say in the operation of government. Prior to joining Fanshawe College, Jim was the President of Paradynamics Inc, a London based software development company. He holds a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Masters degree in Business Administration.
Jim has volunteered with many community groups, such as the Child Poverty Action Group, Western Area Youth Services, London Dressage Association, Ilderton Minor Baseball Association, and the Southwest Optimist Baseball Association. He has participated in numerous charitable and fundraising activities.
Jim has been a Green Party member for 6 years, and ran twice as the Federal Candidate for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. In the 2008 election, Jim increased the Green vote in LKM by 53% while every other party lost votes. Jim is firmly committed to the triple bottom line: fiscal responsibility, social justice and environmental stewardship.
Raised in a rural community north of Barrie, Jim has witnessed the challenges of preserving the culture of the family farm, and the ongoing difficulties faced by farmers. He is also a private pilot, an amateur astronomer, and a certified baseball coach. An avid musician and composer, Jim has recently released a CD of original music with his band, Simple Joy. Jim was nominated for a 2009 Jack Richardson Music Award for Best Singer/Songwriter, and in 2010 Simple Joy was nominated for Best Folk / Roots band for both the Jack Richardson Music Awards and the London Music Awards.
“I have been drawn to the Green Party because it represents balance: a return to community values, putting people first, and recognizing that we live in a shared world with limited resources. Canada needs a long-term vision of sustainable community, sustainable economics, sustainable energy and sustainable democracy. We can only accomplish this by working together to ensure that all voices are heard.”
Jim Johnston is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Lambton - Kent - Middlesex.
