Federal Election Preparation
Canada is going to the polls
And the Green campaign train is getting ready to roll
The Green Party is on the move. We are the fastest growing political force in Canada and the only party that’s polling far higher than during the last election. Last month’s 14% in the Decima poll was an all-time high and the great Green result in the Ontario provincial election is further evidence that our time is here. Now it’s time to take that final step – electing Green Party members to the House of Commons.
It’s no small task. Voter intention is one thing. Getting people to actually vote Green is what really counts. Political organisers call it GOTV – Get Out The Vote – turning intentions into an “X” on the ballot paper and it's the one area where the Green Party is at a big disadvantage to the other major parties.
GOTV takes a strong organization. It takes planning, it takes people, and it takes money. We have all these things. We just don't have enough of them.
That's where you come in. Scroll down to our handy election-ready Take Action checklist – things you can do to ensure that the Green message reaches every corner of the country during the next election campaign.
It could be as simple as putting a Green Party sticker on your bumper or as complicated as organizing a local event where Green supporters can meet.
Green Party Take Action Checklist
- Donate to the green party
- Become a member
- Be a vounteeer
- Sign the debates petition
- Invite your friends to become supporters
- Meet up with other greens
- Wear a green party shirt or button
- Sign up to get our newsletter
It’s your move. To mount an effective campaign, we need volunteers but more than anything we need money and lots of it. If we're serious about being a major player in this election, we need to build our Hope Chest now.
We urgently need more organizers to find strong candidates to fill out our slate of 307 candidates. We need to get our election signs, pamphlets and ads designed and into production. We need to put together our Leader's Tour, including chartering a train to take Elizabeth May and the Green message across the country.
Your donation gets eight times leverage! If you donate $100, for example, you get a tax credit for $75, so it only costs $25. And whatever we spend on an election qualifies for a 50% reimbursement from Elections Canada. Your $100 allows us to spend $200 so for $25 you allow us to spend EIGHT times that!!
Please give what you can, and please tell anyone you think might want to support the Green Party. More than any election in recent memory, the next one will be about the choice between politics as usual and the new ideas and fresh approaches of the Green Party. The fact that you are reading this means that you probably believe that too.
Help us as we promote the workable and effective policies that will make our communities better places to live, work and play. We can make history. We can change the climate in Parliament.
But we can only do it with your help.
