Sylvie Lemieux

I, Sylvie Lemieux, choose to be your federal candidate for the Green Party of Canada because it has the required broad based knowledge and the skills set to provide for leadership in these times of required change and not just for climate change.

MY OBJECTIVE

To be a voice of awareness in the sound governance of federal issues in order to support a clean government, a clean economy, a clean social justice and a clean environment. My definition of clean means ethical transparency and sustainability at all levels.

MY ADDED VALUE

Unlike many politicians I have real experience in managing people, real money and real projects within the prescribed federal rules and policies. I have been extremely disappointed with the minimal level of care and non-ethical behaviour in handling the taxpayers’ money, in the selection of senior bureaucrats, in non-sustainable decisions and in overall disrespect from too many federal senior managers. I believe Canadians deserve clean governance now.

MY EXPERIENCE

I have been a resident of Navan for almost eight years. I was born in the village of Armagh, a Quebec agricultural community in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. I moved to Montreal to attend school including Polytechnique, where I obtained my degree in civil engineering. I joined the Canadian Forces as one of the first woman officers in the Army Military Engineers. This work quickly took me to amazing cities and places across Canada where I most particularly enjoyed People, Nature, Museums and Food. My most vivid memories are the true North, the floating icebergs and the similarity of concerns of Canadians on issues like agriculture, fairness and transparency. I had many opportunities to travel internationally in Europe and the US and was honoured to work on a humanitarian mission to support Afghans leaving their refugee camps in Pakistan in 1990.

After reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and after 21 years of service, I joined the ranks of the Public Service to work in Foreign Affairs, the Canadian Forces Housing Agency, Public Works and Government Services Canada and Infrastructure Canada where I held senior management positions. I left in 2005 to join the private sector, where I work as a facility program manager.

I am bilingual with a keen interest in ensuring that French remains a language of work and pleasure in Ontario.

I am a constant student with many interests in history, museums, sports and nature.

Sylvie Lemieux is the nominated candidate for The Green Party of Canada in the riding of Glengarry - Prescott - Russell.
