Kate Storey

Kate Storey is an organic farmer, environmentalist and active Green party member. She ran as the GPC candidate for Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette in the 2006 and 2008 federal elections. That year she was elected to the Green Party federal council and to the Shadow Cabinet. Kate serves as party critic for Sustainable Agriculture and Prairie issues.

Kate studied biology and ecology at university and earned a degree in Botany in 1979. She worked as a researcher on the woodland caribou habitat project in northern Manitoba. More recently she was employed as a habitat inventory specialist for the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Kate values family, farm and community. She lives and farms near Grandview, Manitoba with her husband. They have four adult children. Kate and her husband are innovators, seeking sustainable production techniques on their organic grain and cattle farm. Kate has chaired the school parent council, the church board, and was Sunday school Superintendant. She is a musician, has been active in many local community musical events, and presently volunteers as church music director. Kate has recently released a CD of traditional celtic music.

Kate serves as director on the boards of the Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council, the Manitoba Organic Feeder association and was a founding director for the Manitoba Organic Marketplace association. She has promoted sustainable, organic farming and conservation as a conference speaker. Kate has been a federal council member for the Green Party of Canada since 2006 and is the current chairperson of the Party.
