David Parker

David has been involved with the Green Party of Canada (GPC) for about 20 years and was the candidate for Edmonton Centre in 2004, 2006 and 2008. David recognizes that, simply by running, Greens are strongly influencing public policy, changing the nature of how governments are run and helping to reverse the slide in public discourse and involvement.

David is a professional engineer and has taught Instrumentation Technology at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) since 1978 until the present. He obtained an honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Huddersfield University in West Yorkshire, England in 1972.

David was born in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England in 1947, and lived there until he was 20. David has taught in Singapore, Australia and Cuba during his time at NAIT. He has also travelled and lived in Europe, Israel, India, and the USA, before settling in Edmonton. His first job in Canada was working as an electrician at the mine site in Uranium City, Saskatchewan.

Dave was very lucky to have married Margaret in 1983 and they are proud to have brought two wonderful daughters into the world. Courtney (23) has just graduated with degrees in Science and Education from the French faculty of the University of Alberta. Kaela (22) is nearing completion of a degree in Anthropology and studied in Italy for the first half of 2008.

David has spent the last 20 years of his life working for and with various environmental groups including: Edmonton Friends of the North, the Alberta Environmental Network, the Canadian Environmental Network, the Climate Action Network, Vegetarians of Alberta Association, TD-Canada Trust Friends of Environment Foundation, EcoNAIT, and many more. He was a delegate to the 2005 UN climate conference in Montreal.  David also ran in the 2008 election.
