(OTTAWA) – The Green Party of Canada congratulates all Green Party of Vancouver candidates for their historic electoral success in the recent Vancouver Municipal Election held on Nov. 15, 2014.

The results saw four of the seven Green candidates elected to the City Council, School Board and Park Board. Adriane Carr, former Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, was re-elected to the Municipal Council receiving the largest vote share among all council candidates.

Along with Adriane Carr, Green Party of Vancouver candidates, Stuart Mackinnon and Michael Wiebe were elected to the Park Board - Janet Fraser was also elected to the School Board.

“This is a huge win for the residents of Vancouver and it demonstrates that voters throughout Canada are looking to elect candidates that best represent the issues they feel are most important to them,” stated Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands.

“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to my friend Adriane Carr, Park Board Commissioners Stuart Mackinnon and Michael Wiebe, and School Board Member Janet Fraser for their decisive victories. I also want to say how proud I am of fellow Green candidates Cleta Brown, Pete Fry, and Mischa Oak for running such a well-organized, professional and positive campaign.”

"I’m very pleased to see that more and more Canadians, from Vancouver Island to New Brunswick have made the choice to elect Green Party candidates,” added Bruce Hyer, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay - Superior North.  "Voters are making the decision to vote for candidates who believe  that they have an obligation to put the interests of Canadians ahead of political parties.”
