Green Canada Vert
Candidate SPOTLIGHT

Candidate SpotlightGlen Hodgson

Glen Hodgson is the Green Party candidate for Parry Sound – Muskoka, and garnered 12% of the vote in the last election, a tremendous achievement given the realities of his riding. Glen has been involved in the Green Party since his days at Trent University in the early 1990s. He has ran in four elections for the Green Party of Canada. He first ran for the Green Party federally in 1997 and has since run in the 2004, 2006 and 2008 elections. Candidate SpotlightHuguette Allen
Hugette Allen is the Green Party candidate for Okanagan-Shuswap where she won 17.3% of the vote in this past election, her first as a federal candidate. She is one of the Green Party's brightest stars and a candidate to keep an eye on for many elections to come.

Her environmental awakening occurred 30 years ago when she realized that the lake she lived near was contaminated by heavy metals from industries that she herself had once encouraged. This led her to the realization that the socio-economic world in which she lived encouraged lifestyles that were bound to be destructive in the long term. She started looking for solutions that would contribute to building a healthier world for future generations.

The Green Economy: BAIL OUT PLANET, NOT POLLUTERS

Green EconomyThere is no better opportunity and no time more critical to move to a Green economy than right now. In addressing our current economic challenges, we can and should face it through a restructuring and reframing of the economy with investments in green technologies, meaningful reductions in carbon emissions, a commitment to increasing energy efficiency and by becoming environmentally sustainable.

When massive bailouts are being doled out, stimulation packages are being negotiated, and the global economy is aching to adjust itself in the face of recession, we must frame them within the context of moving towards a green economy. If we recognize that the bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity, we can achieve the economy that we want and our children deserve: one that is environmentally sustainable, efficient, robust, and rewarding.
