Phone TV networks to include Frank De Jong
After:
- the TV network editors still showing contempt for democracy in Ontario;
- The Ontario NDP is included and they are polling at less than 10% higher than the greens;
- the greens in other provinces are included.
I decided to phone instead of just sign petitions. Here are the phone numbers of the various TV networks and my success so far in switchboard land. The name in parenthesis is the person you want to try to reach. Be firm but respectful. If you don't know what to say, just say "Please include the leader of the Green Party of Ontario in the leaders debate".
The main goal is to get as many people to call. Tell your friends!
Once you have phoned, post your comment here. If you have not activated your account or you are not a GP member, post your comment on my personal blog.

Non-supporter phones in!
This issue goes beyond party stance. We already have non-greens phoning in!

this is great Julien
Get their email and fax numbers and direct lines if possible next time you call. Jim
1 Phone -> 100 E-mails
I heard that politicians use a rule a thumb where 1 visit in person = 100 calls = 10 000 emails . The network editors aren't politicians - or maybee they are. But that's why I hope people will phone instead of e-mail. As for their fax machines, I assume it is already barraged by press releases.
One could say "by any means necessary". But between those 3 methods of communication, I think the phone is the most effective.
Perhaps your experience is different. Let us know.

CTV & Paul Rogers
Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to speak directly with Paul Rogers at CTV about 20 minutes ago. I mentioned that I would like to have seen the Leader of the Green Party of Ontario included in the Leadership debates. I then asked him if he had been receiving very much feedback from other viewers. He indicated that some people had called, but not very many and that they were mostly Green Party supporters.
As to the media consortium's decision he cited the fact that the Green Party does not currently hold a seat in the legislature of Ontario and was excluded for that reason. He went further and mentioned something to the effect of "many members are not even paid up." He was however, quite curteous and very forthright with his answers. I did not confront his views as I felt it would not have been appropriate to badger and complain. I simply reitirated that I felt the Greens should be included.
It looks like we still have work to do to gain respect in some circles.
Who is our membership chair?
...because I don't recall it ever being Paul Rogers of CTV. What on earth does he mean that "many members are not even paid up"?
What matters, of course, are the voters, not the number of paid members (which I understand is currently at an all-time high). The voters are saying that they are interested and want to know more so they can make an informed choice. And since the Legislature was dissolved with the dropping of the writ, no-one from any party holds a seat there right now. With 4 parties running full slates, it's pretty clear which 4 leaders should be in the debates.
Clear to everyone except the broadcasters.

The Party of Hope
I am so glad to be a part of the party of hope rather than the parties of entitlement. We have a lot of work to do. One of the things we have to do is to unite into a massive Canadian Green movement and then work on every election campaign united as a group. (by the way, of course our members are paid up - what a silly excuse from the "corporate media").
I watched Frank and he was far and away the best leader. We have to work hard to earn each vote, one by one, changing peoples minds, giving them hope.
Be real, Vote Green 2007.
