Whitby - Oshawa
Rebecca Harrison is dedicated to positive change for a better tomorrow in her home of Whitby-Oshawa. From social justice to green jobs and fiscal responsibility, she feels that the Green Party of Canada can lead this country towards a brighter future.
Rebecca was born and raised in the rural municipality of the Township of Norwich in South-Western Ontario just east of London. Her father was a successful municipal politician for the better part of 20 years, all the while holding down a full time job as an auto mechanic. Her mother was a dedicated public servant who devoted her free time to supporting environmental and animal welfare non-governmental organizations. Rebecca credits her ambitious and humble approach to politics to their guidance in her life.
Rebecca and her husband Chris purchased their home in north Whitby just over 4 years ago. Two years ago she left her job in marketing to work for the Green Party. She currently works full time from her home as the Political Organizer for the province of Ontario.
Outside of her political life Rebecca is an advocate for social justice and women's issues. Rebecca speaks to youth, in various communities, on violence against women, and poverty elimination to help engage them in shaping their communities. She has been a keynote speaker for various events including MTV News Impact, Dish on Dignity, Take Back the Night and the White Ribbon Campaign. For her advocacy work towards poverty elimination Rebecca was recently appointed as a Champion for Canada Without Poverty.
On top of being a candidate Rebecca is also the Poverty Elimination and the Status of Women's Critic on the Green Party's Shadow Cabinet. As such she is engaged in developing the party's policies with a specific focus on Guaranteed Annual Income.
Rebecca is committed to taking her knowledge of the issues and experience working in politics to represent the constituents of Whitby-Oshawa in Ottawa.
Rebecca Harrison is the nominated candidate for the Green Party of Canada in the riding of Whitby-Oshawa.
