Campaign Song
I'd like to suggest the song as a theme for a green party election commcerial in the upcoming campaign. The song is "Your English is Good" by the Tokyo Police Club
It's quite catchy and has ear garbing intro.
You can check out the song and the bands video for it at http://tokyopoliceclub.com/files/yourenglish.mov
because it is upbeat it would appeal to the youth who are a big part of the potential green party demographic.
the lyrics are great:
OHH. gives us your vote, give us you yote
If you know what's good for you.. (*2) :)
It would work well as a campaign commccercial song because the lyrics are quite bare for the fisrt 30s, which is about what the commercial time would be.
I would picture some fotage in the background - of a rally, the poeple that represent the green party doing stuff or something like that - much like the bands video for the first 10 sec. Then perhaps a few facts about green party policy in bold black letters come in. And then as the heavy part comes in around 25 sec a small green party logo and the end.
Tokyo Police Club are a Canadian band - from NewMarket, Ontario and they might be willinging to consider selling their song to the green party for a reduced rate.

How about "It ain't easy being green"?
The song might improve our result in some demographics but I'm afraid it might scare away just as many in others. And paying for the music? I figure it would help them more than it would help us if it became a campaign song.
Some others to consider:
- The green green grass of home (with a nod to our marijuana bloc)
- Greensleeves (in case of a Christmas election)
- Green eyed lady (for baby boomers but only if Elizabeth has green eyes)
- It ain't easy being green (by Kermit the frog but for all of us)

Hope there's no offense taken
Hi Joel,
I hope you don't think I was yanking your chain too much with my last comment. If you're thinking I'm some kind of 50 year old curmudgeon past his prime you'd be right on the mark.
Most of all, I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm in this party cause we need a lot if it (and some fun) to get anything done.

Thanks for the though thought, and thanks for the feed back. I would venture to guess that Tokyo Police Club would be willing to give the rights to this song to the green party for a small fee and maybee for free. But it would not be legal to just take it from them. As a firm beliver in artists rights I think it would be fair to offer them, or any artist, a sum that the party was willing to pay (with negotitation - a mutually desirable arrangement could be worked out).
(We could allways solicit free songs and probably get some good ones, although then you don't necessarily get what you were going for.)
I don't think a catchy pop song would be bad for a party.
Thanks for the other suggestions too. I think the it aint easy being green has potential.
Peace,
Joel

Thanks for letting me and my idiotic comments off the hook so easily. I owe you one.
