Poll Shows Green Party Support up Significantly

January 7, 2010: A new EKOS poll shows that Canadian support for the Green Party is significantly higher in all regions except for Alberta, where it is holding steady.  Nationally, 13.4% of Canadians would vote Green, up 2.2 points.  In British Columbia, Green support has jumped a whopping 6.2 points to a high of 18.5 and a similar jump of 5.1 points appears in Atlantic Canada.  The Green Party has now surpassed the NDP in both Ontario and Quebec.

"I am pleased and gratified to see the increase in Quebec," said Deputy Leader Jacques Rivard. "We have been working very hard to inform Quebecers as to what the Green Party stands for and obviously that message is resonating."

Green Party Political Campaign Director Catharine Johannson commented, "We don't get too excited about one poll, as it is the overall trend that matters, but we think this shows Canadians appreciate having a clear alternative voice on key issues."

"Our grassroots volunteers have continued to work hard right across the country and that effort is paying off in public support," said Johannson.
