Manitoba's Kate Storey Elected Chair of Green Party Federal Council
OTTAWA-- Kate Storey of Grandview, Manitoba is the new Chair of the Federal Council of the Green Party of Canada; the party's national governing body. She replaces Joe Foster of Ottawa, Ontario, who stepped down after serving for 18 months. He will continue to sit on Council and act as the Party's Human Rights Critic.
"Kate practices the green values of respect, participatory democracy, and sustainability every day, and I look forward to working with her on council,” said Mr. Foster.
Ms. Storey who operates an organic farm in Manitoba has served as the Party's Agriculture Critic and ran in the riding of Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette in the 2006 and 2008 elections. She has served as a board member for numerous rural farming organizations and has been a member of the Federal Council since 2006.
"I am delighted such a dedicated and talented individual will be serving in this important role," said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada.
The Federal Council is responsible for strategic and budgetary planning and development and governance of the Green Party of Canada between general meetings.
"I feel privileged to have this opportunity to work in this role for Canada's fastest growing political party," said Ms. Storey.
Ms. May also recognized the outstanding contributions of the outgoing Chair of Council, Joe Foster.
