Young Once, Green Forever

OTTAWA -- In tandem with the 2010 Green Party convention happening in Toronto this weekend, the Young Greens of Canada are getting together for a summit on activism.

On Saturday, August 21, between 2:30 and 5:30pm, the youth wing of the Green Party of Canada welcome all youth to a free summit, kicking off with a speech by Leader Elizabeth May and leading into workshops on Green Party policy and political campaigning in general.

"We are very excited to have so many young people gathering at the summit to learn about the party and build campaigning capacity. The Green Party of Canada offers hope for the future of both our country and planet; youth are eager to participate and contribute the necessary resources to ensure that the party wins seats in the next federal election," said Young Greens Co-Chair Jocelyn Molyneux.

"No other Canadian party is willing to give young people as much of a hands-on role as the Green Party. From candidates to critical staff members, the Green Party makes a real place for its young members. The Youth Summit will be a celebration of that fact and a confirmation of our important role within the party," said Young Greens Co-Chair Mike Dewar.

“Policy affects youth on many levels and the Green Party welcomes their creative and innovative ideas on how we can move this country forward into a green future,” said Leader Elizabeth May.  “The youth in our party appreciate that our policies take the long-term seven-generation viewpoint.  We think beyond the next federal election campaign and it shows in our policies.”

At 6pm, the Youth Summit will conclude with a flash mob media event in front of the CBC studios.  “The media often portray youth as being apathetic but we’re going to prove them wrong,” said Dewar.
