Conservation Voters of BC endorse Elizabeth May as best candidate to win in Saanich–Gulf Islands riding
The Conservation Voters of BC have chosen Federal Green Party Leader Elizabeth May as the preferred candidate in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
The Conservation Voters of BC (http://conservationvoters.ca) is a group of prominent conservationists who endorse environmental champions in races where they’ve got the best chances to win.
“I’m honoured that the Conservation Voters have endorsed me as the environmental candidate with the best chance to win in Saanich-Gulf Islands,” said Ms. May. “The Harper government’s anti-environmental policies not only jeopardize the country, but much of the world if you look at their internationally significant efforts to destabilize climate change agreements.”
Elizabeth May was the Sierra Club of Canada’s Executive Director for 17 years. She was also the Senior Policy Advisor to federal Environment Minister Tom McMillan in the 1980’s where she helped to create agreements for 5 new national parks, to protect the ozone layer, clean-up the Great Lakes, and combat acid rain. She is the author of 7 books including “Global Warming for Dummies”,” At the Cutting Edge: Canada’s Forests at the Crossroads”, “How to Save the World in Your Spare Time”, and “Losing Confidence: Power, Politics, and the Crisis in Canadian Democracy”. In recognition of her work, Elizabeth May has been awarded the Order of Canada.
Ms. May is in a tight two-way race with Conservative incumbent Gary Lunn in Saanich-Gulf Islands.
