2008 BGM Article Motions for Ratification

The following 5 motions are being presented for ratification as required by Article 10.1.3 of the Party's current Constitution.

G08-c01 - 2008 Constitutional Proposal

BE IT RESOLVED that to enact the 2006 constitutional resolutions, to apply housekeeping changes, and to repair inconsistencies, Federal Council recommends that the following amended constitutional and bylaws be adopted:

G08-c08 - Editing Constitution

BE IT RESOLVED that the following is added to Article 10 Amendments to Constitution and Bylaws: “After each convention at which this Constitution is amended, the Constitution Committee and any legal advisers must oversee the publication of this Constitution as amended and may, in so doing, and subject to the ratification of the Federal Council:

renumber the provisions of this Constitution to accommodate the changes that have been made;
correct cross-references between provisions which are no longer accurate;
correct typographical errors;
correct spelling errors;
replace gender biased language with gender neutral language; and
correct inconsistencies between the English and French versions of this Constitution.

G08-c21 - Federal Council Meetings

BE IT RESOLVED that constitution article sections 9.2 and 9.3 be moved to bylaw section 2 with "and in accordance with procedures set in the Bylaws" removed and the following bylaws added:

- Council meetings shall be scheduled by Council, or may be called by the Chair, or may be called by any group of councilors constituting 1/3 of the membership of Council

- Federal Council may make decisions between normal meetings by email and other electronic means, and the results of any such votes shall be read into the minutes of the subsequent meeting and in accordance with procedures set in the bylaws.

G08-c24 - Youth Representative on Federal Council

BE IT RESOLVED that the Green Party of Canada add a position of Youth Representative to Federal Council, to be a voting member of that council and to be a representative of the Young Greens of Canada who shall be selected in accordance with rules set out in the Young Green of Canada constitution and bylaws, as the case may be; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Youth Representative position on Federal Council replaces any Youth Chair position on Federal Council.

G08-c25 - Authorization to Correct Numbering, References, and Typos

BE IT RESOLVED that the following Article be added to the Party’s constitution in Article 10 (Amendments to Constitution and Bylaws):

10.4 Constitution and Bylaws
10.4.1 After each General Meeting at which this Constitution or the Bylaws are amended, Federal Council shall ensure the publication of the amended Constitution and Bylaws, and at that time may:
10.4.1.1 Renumber the provisions of this Constitution or the Bylaws to accommodate the changes that have been made.
10.4.1.2 Correct references between provisions which are no longer accurate.
10.4.1.3 Correct errors which are purely typographical, insofar as such changes will not change the meaning of any provision.
