Letter to the Globe and Mail
Here's a reality check:
Stephen Harper called Elizabeth May's church statement "extremist and undignified". Today in the House of Commons, secretary of state for foreign affairs Helena Guergis said that opposition parties who questioned the government about the torture of Afghan detainees were "siding with Taliban accusations". Is it not 'extremist and undignified' to accuse opposition parliamentarians of being in cahoots with the Taliban? What's less dignified, comparing Stephen Harper to Neville Chamberlain, or calling Stephane Dion a Taliban sympathizer? Perhaps we've had quite enough Elizabeth May bashing for one week, eh?

Nice...
A good letter. Quick, and to the point.
Isn't this all such a waste of time, though?
Time to move on, and get column inches out there about more important stuff.
Yeah
It is all such a waste of time, and I totally agree with you. A timely distraction from the Conservatives' abysmal climate legislation and also from the oppositon parties' fear of taking the government to task for it in an election. But, I suppose as long as the press is still dining out on the issue it doesn't hurt to point out the gross inconsistencies in logic at work in their coverage. Rex Murphy (why won't he just retire already?) did a 'Rex's Point of View' about it on The National tonight, and despite all Elizabeth's clarifications he still crassly misrepresented her. It boggles the mind. I guess the only outlet I have for my frustration with the media on this issue is to send them letters which they handily ignore. It's staggering how little sophistication people in the media have for nuances of argument. Oh well. What else can you do? Never open your mouth in public? I feel bad for Elizabeth, to have had her meaning twisted around like this. It must hurt.
Political Opportunism
Thomas Walkom in the Toronto Star today questions why Harper is attackigng May over a metaphor that is frequently used by politicians including Conservatives see www.thestar.com/article/209966
We have to realize that when the Green Party has one third of the support of the Conservatives we can expect this kind of thing.
