End boil water advisories on First Nations reserves

Attawapiskat, like over a hundred other First Nation reserves, is in a severe water crisis. There are so many hazardous chemicals in their water that Attawapiskat community members were actually advised by officials to not have hot showers, keep the windows open and “keep their pores small”.

This situation is absolutely unacceptable. In Canada, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, with 20% of the world’s fresh water, this is a national embarassmnet. Prime Minister Trudeau promised to end all boil water advisories in 2015. Today, there are still over 100 reserves without access to safe water -- and no decisive action in sight.

Trudeau asked Canadians and the First Nations affected by unsafe water to be patient.

But what are we waiting for? The Liberals are spending billions on a pipeline that infringes on Indigenous rights, making massive investments in fracking and paying out $3.3 billion in fossil fuel subsidies.

The government clearly has the funds to solve this problem, but they're missing the political will.

Elizabeth May and Green MPs will make the needed investments in neglected First Nations infrastructure, put an end to boil water advisories, and commit to a new relationship with Indigenous people based on trust and respect.
