OTTAWA – Green Party Leader Annamie Paul congratulates Paul Manly (MP, Nanaimo-Ladysmith), on being acclaimed as the party’s candidate in Nanaimo-Ladysmith, B.C. Mr. Manly won a historic victory there in the May 2019 by-election and was reelected in the 2019 federal election.
Before the pandemic, Paul was already making his mark in the House of Commons on issues of social and environmental urgency. He called for a national moratorium on gas fracking and pointed out the unacceptable conditions for residents and workers in for-profit long term care homes. Paul has also advocated for stronger federal regulations to protect housing affordability, and for increased federal funding to conserve Canada’s endangered old growth forest ecosystems.
“We’re thrilled that Paul will be the Green Party incumbent candidate in Nanaimo-Ladysmith for the next federal election,” said Ms. Paul. “Paul has deep roots in the community and has been an outstanding advocate on issues of concern to his constituents and to all Canadians.
“The next Parliament will govern Canada at a critical crossroads. Now is the time for bold, progressive policies. MPs like Paul Manly strengthen our voice as we strive to reinforce Canada’s social safety net, launch a Green recovery and forge a just society.”
