Green MPs put their communities first. As your MP, I always put people and planet above profit or partisan interests.
After a lifetime working and living in Nanaimo and Ladysmith, Paul Manly is proud to fight on behalf of his home towns as Canada’s second elected Green MP. From adopting decisive climate action to finding smart solutions for small business owners, Paul’s mission is to be a strong voice for his community in federal parliament.
Paul Manly was born in Port Alice on Vancouver Island, B.C. He has travelled widely and lived in other parts of Canada but Nanaimo and Ladysmith have always been his home base. His grandfather had a farm just outside of Nanaimo and Paul spent his formative years growing up in Ladysmith. He has been living in Nanaimo since 2002.
Raised in a political family, Paul developed a keen interest in social and economic justice, environmental stewardship and politics, and it is these issues that have formed who he is now. As a researcher, filmmaker and communications specialist, Paul has committed his skills and knowledge to the creation of media that educates, informs and adds to public dialogue on issues of importance.
Bold climate action and innovative social programs are our only way forward.
Paul has proven experience in governance. For three years he was a director on the national board of the Council of Canadians representing the B.C. Yukon region chapters. He was a director on the board of the development company for Pacific Gardens Cohousing Community, a multi-million dollar housing project. He is currently a director of the Mid Island Consumer Services Cooperative and is an advisor to several other bodies.
For the last 3 years Paul has been working for Nanaimo Foodshare, a not for profit society, where he has been running employment skills training programs for youth with multiple barriers to employment and people with diverse abilities.
Paul is married and has two daughters age 18 and 31.
