Implement Recommendations from the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples Report, 1996
Preamble
WHEREAS In 1991, The Government of Canada appointed commissioners to a Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP) to investigate the question of: What are the foundations of a fair and honorable relationship between the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people of Canada?;
WHEREAS The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples held 178 days of public hearings, visited 96 communities, consulted dozens of experts, commissioned scores of research studies, reviewed numerous past inquiries and reports and published a five-volume report in 1996 detailing recommendation on a way forward to reconciliation;
WHEREAS The RCAP has identified hundreds of recommendations that will lead Canada on a path towards true and meaningful reconciliation in a new relationship with Indigenous peoples.

BE IT RESOLVED That the Green Party of Canada urge the Government of Canada implement the recommendations made by the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples.
