Guelph City Councilor Endorses Mike Nagy! Former Liberal Maggie Laidlaw endorses Green Party in by-election!

Jim Harris

In a groundbreaking opinion piece in today’s Guelph Mercury city councilor Maggie Laidlaw endorses Mike Nagy and the Green Party.

Maggie is a former Liberal who in this by-election is voting Green. This is a major shift and highlights the tectonic shift taking place in Guelph right now . . . Guelph’s Going Green!!

I have excerpted a few pieces of the article below:

A Green party win would be a real green shift for Guelph

August 27, 2008
MAGGIE LAIDLAW

This time around, I am voting for Mike Nagy and the Green party, for a variety of reasons.

How would you like to see Guelph in the history books and on the international map?

Byelections are a time to kick up your heels and vote for what you really want.

A win for the Green party in Guelph will put the first Green candidate in Parliament, and Nagy would become the first elected Green politician in North America.

Such a win will allow Green party Leader Elizabeth May to appear -- for the first time -- in televised leaders' debates.

What would be better than having a "green-minded" city like Guelph represented by the first Green MP in Canada.

. . . let's face it, another Liberal, NDP or Conservative from Guelph will not make the slightest difference to the House of Commons.

A Green MP, on the other hand, would be equivalent to an electoral coup. It would tell all politicians that Canada has come of age, and that the general public is ahead of the current Parliament in its concern for the environment.
. . .

Have you noticed the number of Green signs throughout Guelph?

Door to door, the Greens are tracking to win this riding. Take a look at Nagy's credentials (at mikenagy.ca), which are exemplary . . .

Bring democracy to the televised debate, bring historical relevance to Guelph internationally, and bring the importance of the environment and the future of planet Earth right into the sightlines of Stephen Harper -- vote Green in this byelection.
