Green Party Statement on Remembrance Day 2020

OTTAWA – Also known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day commemorates the day and time that armies stopped fighting the First World War, at 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918.

“Today, as we observe a minute of silence, I join with all Canadians to honour and remember the immense sacrifices made by those who served, and continue to serve Canada during times of conflict and peace,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul.

“We are profoundly grateful to members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) for stepping in to provide essential services at long-term care facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic and reporting on the shocking conditions they discovered in many facilities. The sacrifices and service made by these personnel and their families remind us that it is crucial we ensure veterans and every person in Canada receive the care and support they need and deserve. The contributions of veterans to our society must never be underestimated nor forgotten.”
