Green Summer Survey

Canada has the chance of a lifetime to build a sustainable, green economy. The GPC is proposing initiatives like: setting and meeting ambitious climate targets, creating the green jobs of the future, supporting made-in-Canada renewable energy innovation, retrofitting buildings, investing in green infrastructure, and instituting a Carbon Border Adjustment.

Affordable housing is in crisis. With recent stay-at-home orders during the pandemic, we’ve seen how important it is for everyone to have a safe place to stay. Advocates are warning that low-income workers are at risk of eviction as they fall into arrears. The federal government has the ability to offer a residential rent benefit — ensuring low-income renters can keep their homes, during and after the pandemic.

The Green Party is the only party proposing we join countries like Germany and Sweden in abolishing student tuition and cancelling federally-held student debt. Universal post-secondary education is one of the best investments we can make in Canada’s future. This program would be largely financed by redirecting spending on tuition tax credits, saved costs of administering student loans and the hundreds of millions of dollars of student loan defaults written off every year.

Pursuing true reconciliation and a new relationship with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples is fundamental to all Green Party policies. Fulfilling the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and the calls for justice from the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and respecting Indigenous self-determination are essential.
