I want to run for office because we need more people in office that understand the urgency and seriousness of the climate crisis.
Every year climate disasters continue to get worse; yet politicians continue to subsidize fossil fuels and approve new fossil fuel projects. This is irresponsible and reckless. We need to invest in climate solutions like clean energy, public transit and energy efficiency. By investing in real climate solutions, we can create good jobs, clean up our air and water and help people save money.
I have a strong understanding of environmental and socio-political issues that affect our country. I have a BA in Environmental Studies and an MA in Sustainability Studies from Trent University. I led the fossil fuel divestment campaign on my campus from 2012 to 2016. In Golden I ran the Electric Vehicle Car Share Program and Air Quality Program with Wild sight Golden. I was responsible for the Town of Golden committing to 100% renewable energy by 2050, and Powell River endorsing the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2022.
If elected, I will fight for proportional representation because every vote should matter, no matter where you live or who you vote for; that’s how a democracy is supposed to work. I will also fight to make the ultra-wealthy and corporations pay more in taxes so that the rest of Canadians don’t have to suffer at the hands of the rich. I will also fight to protect our public broadcasting corporation, as it is an important and significant part of Canadian culture and identity.
