Imtiaz Popat is a therapeutic counsellor, mental health worker, filmmaker, and long-time advocate for equal rights and social justice. He is a co-founder of the Coalition Against Bigotry-Pacific and the Community-Based Anti-Hate Task Force. He received the BC Anti-Racism Intercultural Trust Award, which recognizes outstanding efforts in building intercultural trust, fostering understanding, and combating racism and hate between communities.
He does not believe in relying entirely on mass electrification, as he considers it unsustainable. That is why he drives a hybrid car—to reduce fossil fuel consumption without overloading the electric power grid. He believes we must transition our electrical power grid to renewable sources, such as solar, wind, and tidal energy, moving away from hydroelectric and nuclear power. Additionally, he advocates for investment in sustainable energy sources, including hydrogen and geothermal energy.
