Nira Dookeran has been a proud resident of Ottawa South since 2007, where she taught civics, history, and English as a Second Language at Ridgemont High School. Her son, Roshan, attended Brookfield High School, and together, they have become deeply connected to their community. Over the past decade, Nira has been a dedicated advocate for sustainability, justice, diversity, and grassroots democracy.

With 10 years of experience at all levels of Green Party activity, Nira has run as a Green candidate three times (twice federally, once provincially) and co-managed one of the largest Green campaigns in Ottawa. She has served on the Ontario Greens’ Provincial Executive, working on policy development, diversity initiatives, and internal governance. Currently, she is the CEO of the Ottawa South Greens federal riding association and Communications Officer for the provincial riding association.

Beyond politics, Nira is a passionate community leader, involved with the Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative, the Ontario Health Coalition, and her church’s Environmental Justice Committee. Her expertise spans literacy development for refugees, cultural proficiency training, leadership in diverse organizations, and sustainability initiatives.

Ontario needs real leadership that puts people and communities first. Nira is ready to be that voice—advocating for affordable housing, strong public services, and environmental protection. With a commitment to collaboration and solutions that work for everyone, she is prepared to represent Ottawa South as a strong, principled Green leader.

What It Means
To Vote Green

  • It means putting communities first. Green MPs have the freedom to vote based on local priorities, not party politics. We stand firmly for Canadian communities and values against all threats.

  • It means fighting for economic fairness. Our plan provides cost-of-living relief for working Canadians while protecting jobs and businesses from economic disruptions.

  • It means building lasting prosperity. Our climate strategy creates good jobs and strong communities that can weather future challenges. We plan for generations, not election cycles.
