ESQUIMALT – The Green Party of Canada is proud to announce that Ben Homer-Dixon will be the Party’s candidate in Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke for this federal election. At just 20 years old, Homer-Dixon represents a new generation of leadership, bringing fresh energy, bold ideas, and a deep commitment to tackling the most pressing challenges of our time.

“I’m running for Member of Parliament because young people deserve strong representation in shaping the future,” said Ben Homer-Dixon. “We need leaders who will prioritize climate action, social justice, and economic equity. I’m ready to step up and make sure our voices are heard.”

A first-year Geography student at the University of Victoria, Homer-Dixon is focused on the intersection of human activity and the natural world, particularly the effects of sea-level rise, flooding, and drought on land use. His passion for environmental policy is rooted in both academic research and real-world experience, having conducted empirical fieldwork on Vancouver Island’s creeks, forests, and urban areas.

“Ben is exactly the kind of leader we need—someone who understands the urgency of the climate crisis, believes in evidence-based policy, and has the energy and determination to drive real change,” said Green Party co-leader Elizabeth May. “I’m thrilled to welcome him as our candidate in Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke.”

Homer-Dixon is also a passionate advocate for civic engagement and intergenerational equity. His TEDx talk, “Someone Else’s Problem,” explores how societal inaction on major crises—like climate change—can be overcome.

“Ben represents the future of Canada—one where young people are not only at the table but leading the conversation,” said Green Party co-leader Jonathan Pedneault. “His deep roots in the community, his commitment to sustainability, and his drive to make a difference make him an outstanding candidate for Esquimalt—Saanich—Sooke.”

Homer-Dixon’s family has a long history in the riding. Having spent childhood summers in the region before moving permanently in 2019, he is committed to representing the needs of local residents while working toward a fairer, greener, and more sustainable future.

“The time to act is now—apathy is not an option,” said Homer-Dixon. “We are the change.”
