OTTAWA – A new Nanos Research survey reveals that 66% of Canadians believe Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre should ask for a review process to see if he can obtain national security clearance. The results reflect growing public consensus on the need for greater transparency and accountability in matters of national security.

“Pierre Poilievre must undertake the screening necessary to confirm if he is untainted by foreign influence,” said Green Party co-Leader Elizabeth May.” Only he can clear the air about Prime Minister Modi’s alleged role in the Conservative Party leadership race. Canadians deserve leaders who put facts above rhetoric and prioritize national security over political gamesmanship.”

In her final report from the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference, Commissioner Marie-Josée Hogue recommended that all federal party leaders receive top-secret security clearance to ensure they are properly briefed on potential threats to Canadian democracy.

“The issue of foreign interference is too serious to be reduced to political theatrics,” said Green Party Co-Leader Jonathan Pedneault. “Security briefings exist to protect Canadians. If Mr. Poilievre wants to lead the country, he should have the courage to face the facts instead of avoiding them.”

The Green Party of Canada continues to urge Pierre Poilievre to follow the recommendations of security experts and work towards getting the security clearance—because Canadians deserve a leader who takes national security seriously.
