NANAIMO – The Green Party of Canada is excited to announce that Paul Manly is back on Team Canada as its candidate for Nanaimo-Ladysmith. Paul is throwing his hat in the ring to prevent Pierre Polievere from gaining a seat in his home riding.

“I am so honoured to be working on Nanaimo’s city council, but I have been persuaded by community leaders that my voice on behalf of Nanaimo-Ladysmith is needed in Ottawa,” said Paul Manly.

Paul has a proven track record of delivering real results for Nanaimo-Ladysmith. First elected in a historic 2019 by-election, Paul quickly made his mark in Parliament as a champion for affordable housing, urgent climate action, and protecting vulnerable communities. Working effectively across party lines, he secured important legislative amendments, including better protections for people with disabilities in Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law, formal recognition for community media in the Broadcasting Act, and unanimous support for fairer treatment of British pensioners living in Canada. Recently awarded the King Charles Coronation Medal, Paul continues to demonstrate his commitment to building stronger communities.

“I have been working alongside my friend and colleague Paul Manly for decades,” said Green Party Co-Leader Elizabeth May. “He is a bold community leader and his track record in Parliament speaks for itself. Canadians deserve hard-working MPs like Paul Manly in Ottawa.”

Paul represented the people of Nanaimo-Ladysmith in both the 42nd and 43rd Parliament. In Ottawa, Paul introduced motions that called for stronger housing market regulation, a national ban on gas fracking, national standards for long-term care, and protections for endangered old-growth forests. He is champion for a Guaranteed Livable Income and for bold action on the housing and climate crises, pressing issues that are affecting Canadians across the country.

“Paul is a stellar community leader – where others would run away, equivocate or hide, he stands for justice and doing good for those around him,” said Green Party Co-Leader Jonathan Pedneault. “I have seen Paul in action, in Nanaimo and beyond, caring for the ones that have the least in our society, helping at-risk youth navigate the struggles they face and fighting for his community. At a time when communities struggle throughout the country to be heard by decision makers in Ottawa, I can think of no better advocate for Nanaimo in Ottawa than Paul Manly. He’s done it before, and he will do it again.”

Paul Manly will officially launch his campaign on Friday, March 28th. Details will be forthcoming.
