Ready, Not Just Reacting

Canada faces more disasters every year. Fires and floods destroy communities. Supply chains break down. Disease outbreaks threaten public health. But governments only react after disasters strike. The Green Party has a better plan. We’ll get ready for emergencies before they happen. We’ll make sure communities have what they need to face future crises. We’ll create a National Civil Defence Corps to strengthen our resilience from the ground up.

A Better Way to Handle Emergencies

Canada can be future-ready. Here are some key points of our plan:

  • Create a new National Emergency Response agency
  • Create a National Civil Defence Corps with members embedded in communities across Canada
  • Train Canadians in emergency response, disaster management, and infrastructure protection
  • Establish Indigenous-led units to protect northern sovereignty and provide specialized knowledge
  • Build stronger infrastructure to protect drinking water and prevent floods
  • Reduce wildfire risks through better forest management and fire breaks
  • Ensure Canada can produce its own emergency supplies like vaccines and safety equipment

Building Stronger Communities

Getting ready for emergencies means more than just responding to disasters. We’ll help determine where flood and fire risks are highest. We’ll assist communities to prepare for extreme weather. We’ll make sure remote and Indigenous communities get the support they need. And we’ll ensure emergency responders have the right training and equipment.

Our National Civil Defence Corps represents a dual investment in both our national security and our people. We’ll build community connections and a sense of shared purpose and national pride. And we’ll ensure our Civil Defence Corps can respond to multiple threats simultaneously: climate disasters, infrastructure protection, and national security.
