Reconciliation
Real Action for Indigenous Rights
Reconciliation takes more than words. It takes action. Canada’s treatment of Indigenous Peoples has caused deep harm across generations. The injustices continue today. The Green Party will build a true nation-to-nation relationship with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. We’ll respect Indigenous rights and support Indigenous self-determination.
Taking Real Steps Toward Justice
Reconciliation must start with truth and action. Here is some of what’s in our plan:
- Act on every Call to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
- Act on every Call for Justice from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Inquiry
- Fix the justice system that puts too many Indigenous people in prison
- Fund restorative justice programs that help heal both victims and offenders
- Support Indigenous communities searching former residential school sites
Supporting Indigenous Rights and Leadership
Indigenous Peoples have the right to make their own decisions. We’ll put the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights into action. We’ll respect Indigenous consent on decisions about their lands. We’ll support an Indigenous-led end to the Indian Act. We’ll make sure Indigenous voices help shape national decisions.
True Reconciliation means Indigenous Peoples lead the way in shaping their communities, lands, and futures.
