Peace
& Security
A Strong and Independent Canada
The world faces new threats. Canada must defend itself and promote peace. We need modern defence strategies for today’s challenges. These include protecting the Arctic, stopping cyber attacks, and building national resilience to disasters. The Green Party will ensure Canada can protect itself while standing up for human rights around the world.
Building Real Security
We need to be able to protect Canadians and support our allies. Here are some key points of our plan:
- Strengthen Arctic and coastal security with more patrols and better equipment
- Build stronger cyber defences to protect Canadians
- Provide our armed forces with the specific capabilities they need for today’s threats
- Create a nationwide civil defence corps focused on responding to climate disasters
- Stop selling weapons to countries that abuse human rights
Increasing Canadian Self-Reliance
To be truly secure, Canada needs to make more of what we use. Recent events have shown we can’t rely too much on other countries. We’ll support Canadian manufacturing to create good jobs making essential products here at home. This includes clean technology, medical supplies, and other vital goods. And we’ll make sure government contracts go to Canadian manufacturers first.
Working for Global Peace
True security means more than military strength. It means fixing the causes of conflict. We’ll strengthen Canada’s role in global peace efforts and share our expertise in climate disaster response. We’ll support climate security and nuclear disarmament. We’ll stand up to countries that threaten democracy. And we’ll make sure our trade deals put human rights first.
A safer world needs countries that stand up for what’s right. Canada can lead by example.
