Six people of diverse backgrounds in a collaborative protest, surrounding a circle saying "Change, Vote for it".

Otis Crandell believes that by listening to the voices in the community, we can work together to develop effective solutions and build a robust, sustainable future.

Holding a doctorate in Earth Science, Otis has worked as an academic researcher for over 20 years. He is currently conducting heritage-related research at Memorial University, with a focus on northern Labrador. In his free time, he volunteers with several youth education initiatives, a community bicycle garage, a bike lending program, clean-up projects along hiking paths in St. John’s, and community awareness campaigns. He has also taken part in—and organized—protests and petitions to raise awareness about key societal issues, including Green Party priorities, to encourage politicians to implement real change. An avid cyclist and hiker, Otis enjoys exploring the scenic landscapes in and around Newfoundland and Labrador.

Otis is passionate about making Canada a better place—starting with St. John’s East. Through conversations with community members, he has repeatedly heard the same concerns: inadequate healthcare, lack of affordable housing, rising education costs, and the ever-increasing cost of living—especially food prices. He believes these challenges can and must be addressed by the federal government. By listening to the community and working together, Otis believes we can develop effective, long-term solutions to create a better, more sustainable society—one with high-quality healthcare, accessible education, reliable and affordable food production, a thriving job market, and housing that keeps pace with our growing population.

Otis strongly supports the Green Party’s vision for long-term, sustainable solutions and values the freedom of Green MPs to advocate for their constituents, rather than being forced to vote along party lines. He believes that this, along with the Green Party’s commitment to real change, makes it the best choice for both Canada and the individual communities that make up this country.

A Vote for Otis Crandell is a Vote for Action

If elected, Otis will focus on the issues that matter most to the people of St. John’s East by pushing for policies that:

Strengthen our healthcare system by increasing funding for medical education, improving working conditions for healthcare workers, implementing programs to certify foreign-trained medical professionals, and subsidizing initiatives to attract young medical professionals to rural communities.

Expand affordable housing programs, similar to post-WWII housing efforts, to make homeownership and rental housing more accessible.

Reduce food costs by subsidizing Canadian agriculture and food production, ensuring Canadians have access to affordable, high-quality food.

Improve post-secondary education by increasing federal funding for schools that take steps to reduce administrative bloat and expanding tuition subsidies, with the ultimate goal of making education free.
